flickshot hyper combat
A downloadable game for Windows
hyper combat.
flickshot is a stylish competitive top-down arena shooter party game inspired by videoball, super smash bros, and lethal league—it's all about movement through recoil, ricocheting off of walls, and going really really fast.
flickshot supports up to four players, with drop-in drop-out functionality.
how to play.
in flickshot, the only way to move is by using the recoil from your shots. as your health gets lower, so does the weight of your ship—so watch out.
the controls are simple:
- analog stick: aim
- south face button: fire (hold for a charge shot)
- west face button: dodge
- east face button: parry
charge shot.
holding the fire button will charge a massive charge shot, which when released can be used for quick bursts of movement or to deal massive damage to your opponents. charge shots also travel through walls.
power meter.
below your health bar is a power meter with three segments. segments of the power meter can be spent on dodging and parrying, which are invaluable tools for a flickshot combatant. meter can be regained by dealing damage, getting hit, and by bouncing off of walls really hard.
dodge.
the dodge button makes you briefly intangible and gives you a small burst of movement. it can be used to get out of a jam or to maneuver through a hail of bullets for better positioning. dodging costs one segment of the power meter, so use it wisely.
parry.
pressing the parry button (or fire & dodge simultaneously) will activate a parry, granting a brief shield that reflects all incoming shots, doubling their speed and damage. parrying costs two segments of the power meter.
win.
when your opponent is at a single point of health, they will start smoking and become invincible to all normal shots. the only way to secure victory is with a charge shot.
advanced techniques.
flickshot is easy to learn, and hard to master. lying beneath the chaos there are several advanced mechanics that may give you an edge in the arena.
curve shot.
spinning the analog stick before releasing a charge shot will release a special charge shot that has a curved trajectory. excellent for catching your opponent off guard.
tackle.
ramming into your opponent at a high speed will deal damage as well as cancel their charge.
parry tackle.
tackling an opponent while parrying will deal heavy damage to the opponent and send them flying even faster.
directional influence.
when bouncing off of a wall, you can influence the angle of your bounce slightly by pushing the stick in a direction parallel to the wall. useful for positioning and for evading follow-up attacks.
known issues.
- starting the game with no controllers connected will put the game in an unplayable state.
- sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting a controller will cause an extra player to spawn.
flickshot is still in active development. many visuals, sounds, and mechanics are placeholders and are subject to change. feedback is encouraged!
